About Yen Kim

Dr Yen Kim is the Research Manager for the NTRI. She has a PhD in Neuroscience from Deakin University and concurrently completed a research traineeship at the Mayo Clinic (MN, USA), working with a multidisciplinary team across neural engineering, psychiatry and translational neuroscience departments. To further her career in Health Care Project Management, she continued with professional education at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Dr Kim commenced at the NTRI in 2017 where she started managing major grants in medical technology development and commercialisation activities. In her current role, Dr Yen Kim is responsible for leadership and multi-functional support of research projects and staff across the NTRI, Trauma Service and Monash University. This includes implementing research strategy for NTRI as well as guiding clinicians, nurses, allied health staff, researchers and collaborators in line with the overarching NTRI’s research vision. In addition, there is a strong knowledge translation focus. She identifies areas for innovation to establish and maintain partnerships with industry partners, government agencies and other health policymakers. Dr Kim is a key liaison between NTRI and the Central Clinical School Monash University, Monash Innovation team and the Monash Research Office, in order to oversee and ensure quality for all research and trauma registries.

She holds an adjunct research fellow position at the Monash University with which she supervises PhD and Biomedical Science Honours students. Dr Kim continues to pursue her particular research interest in medical device development with projects including the development of a Semi-Automated Decompression Device, valued at AUD$30,000,000 by Monash Partners, along with the Computerised Resuscitation Decision Support System, currently operational in Trauma bays at the Alfred Hospital.
